HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Well, almost that is, and for the mean time I saw this awesome art project on http://www.craftymorning.com! This might just be a fun way to introduce anatomy into the classroom, while creating a project geared towards Halloween. Students can create their own skeletal self-portrait. The materials are pretty inexpensive and students can even bring some of the materials from home, like the cotton ball swabs. Take in to account that this is a pretty messy project since the student is stamping their hand and arm onto black paper with white paint. For more details on the art making check out the project here>> http://www.craftymorning.com/easy-q-tip-handprint-skeleton-craft/
Color is not always an easy subject to teach. It is complex in the amount of information that is being displayed and yet it is something that is seen everywhere. For example, color theory can be applied when you are picking out what to wear or what color backpack to buy, but just looking at the color wheel above can be a bit intimidating. Personally, color is something that I still struggle with to this day, but I have found great resources to help visualize certain shades next to each other better. These links are great tools for examples on color>>

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/tiny-portraits-south-african-painter-lorraine-loots-display-ants-nyc-exhibition/ What a cool way to reproduce artwork or even create unique collages and it is so easy to do! This is a fun way to introduce different mediums to one of the more advanced art classes. Students will enjoy the art making process and the quick results it offers. The process will also encourage students to be more patient and careful. Once the image has transferred students will have to remove the paper with a watered down sponge or scraper, which is much more tedious then one would expect.
When I was in school I was always doodling. Whether it be on the back of a test, homework, notes, folders, etc. Doodling is just one of those creative outlets that we sometimes just need to get out onto paper. Take a look at how some teachers are encouraging doodling:

Students create a monster of their fear for starting Art 1. Anything from "being late," "can't draw,""hungry," or even "being the only senior." Finding ways for students to connect and to address there insecurities about a new art class in such a fun way!
